Cockapoo vs Cavapoo
Cockapoo Characteristics
Cockapoos are a mix of a mini Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. Mini Cockapoos cross a toy Poodle with a small Cocker Spaniel, or another Cockapoo. Both traditional and mini Cockapoos are small Doodles with adorable, Teddy Bear looks. They are ideal for families looking for a small dog with wavy to curly fur in beautiful colors. Cockapoos are typically born in colors such as red, chocolate, Parti-Color, Merle or cream.
Cockapoos are friendly, happy, and the constant companion of their family members. Cockapoos were the original Doodle— the very first AKC dog breed to be intentionally crossed with a Poodle. Cockapoos have had enduring charm because of their health, great looks, low to non-shedding coats, and sweet personalities. Cockapoo and mini Cockapoo puppies tend to be on both sides of the active spectrum: highly social and playful at times, but also easily transitions into a cuddly couch friend.
People generally love the looks of Cockapoos—their huge ears, giant eyes, and thick coats. Even though they’ve been around for such a long time (relatively speaking of course) compared to other Doodle breeds, the ever friendly Cockapoos continue to be a fan favorite.
Cavapoo Characteristics
Cavapoos and mini Cavapoos are a mix of a mini Poodle (or toy Poodle) and a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos are adorable, little puppies that exemplify the Teddy Bear look. They are very similar in look to Cockapoos but tend to have more variance in coat texture and have slower growing coats. Cavapoos are commonly born in the colors of red, red and white, apricot, tri-Color and blenheim.
Cavapoo puppies are wonderful with children; they seldom meet a stranger and love being with people. They are some of the most calm of all doodle varieties. They seldom bark, and they love to cuddle. They require less exercise than Cockapoos and are generally less active. Cavapoos are an excellent choice for families who are looking for a calmer, quieter dog with a more relaxed personality.
Cavapoos are a younger breed than Cockapoos but have sky-rocketed in popularity due to their calm temperaments and gorgeous looks.
We think that either the Cockapoo or Cavapoo would be a great choice for families looking for a small Doodle with hypoallergenic coats and a Teddy Bear look. We would recommend Cockapoos for families looking for a more playful, active puppy and would suggest Cavapoos for families looking for a dog with a more relaxed temperament.
