Puppy Health Guarantee

Crockett Doodles guarantees your puppy to be in good health, to the best of our knowledge, on the day of your adoption. This means that we will take reasonable measures to ensure your puppy is healthy on Adoption Day. By accepting the puppy, you also accept the responsibilities of ownership. The following is the extent of our Health Guarantee.

Seven Day Buyer’s Responsibility

It is the Buyer’s responsibility to have an appointment at your licensed veterinarian’s office for a well-check within 7 days of the purchase of your puppy. Contact Crockett Doodles if your licensed veterinarian diagnoses any health issues at your puppy’s first well-check visit.

If the puppy is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian to be suffering from a life-threatening or debilitating disease within the first 7 days after pick-up or delivery, the Buyer can return the puppy for a refund of the purchase price of the puppy. (Life-threatening/debilitating illness or disease does not include common puppy issues such as ear mites, giardia, coccidia, etc.) If the puppy is not examined by a licensed veterinarian within this 7-day period, the return/refund policy will be void.

If your puppy has an emergency health concern within the first 7 days before your scheduled licensed veterinarian visit, please
call our Client Experience Team at (864) 453-8997 immediately and they will help you make the decision on the best course of
action for your puppy.  Keep in mind that our guarantee is only up to the purchase price of your puppy, and we are not obligated to pay veterinary bills exceeding the purchase price of your puppy. Crockett Doodles is not responsible for non-medical expenses (e.g. prescribed food, kennels, toys, beds, carpets, cleaning), or other non-medical expenses such as personal time spent, or other pets/animals affected by contact with the puppy. Our Puppy Health Guarantee is not a replacement for pet insurance which we highly recommend.

It is the Buyer’s responsibility to protect the puppy from any contact with communicable diseases by not exposing it to public places and by keeping up to date on immunizations. Keeping your puppy away from public parks and beaches, stores, etc., until the puppy has completed all immunizations (typically around 3-4 months of age) is required for our Puppy Health Guarantee.

Common Adoption Issues

It is common for puppies to experience stress when transitioning to their new home. This may lower their immune systems temporarily and make it more difficult to fight parasites like Giardia and Coccidia. If your puppy experiences loose stools or diarrhea but is not lethargic and does not have other health issues, please be sure to mention this to your licensed veterinarian during your first veterinarian-check.

Common puppy parasites like giardia, coccidia, hookworms, etc. are easily treatable. If at your first veterinarian-check (which
must take place within 7 days after Adoption Day) your puppy is diagnosed with a parasite, Crockett Doodles will be glad to
help cover the cost of the first round of medication for your puppy up to $100. We cannot be responsible
for on-going parasite issues after 7 days as we have no control over your puppy’s environment in/at your home. Most
breeders do not cover any costs for treatments related to these common puppy issues.

Congenital Genetic Issues

Crockett Doodles guarantees the puppy is free of hereditary defects to the best of our knowledge. All our puppies come with a one-year guarantee against life-threatening congenital/genetic defects and debilitating disease.

If you feed the dog food that we recommend – TLC whole life puppy food and later TLC dog food – for the full three years, we will extend our one year health guarantee to three years from the adoption date.

If you or your licensed veterinarian have concerns about feeding your puppy TLC food, please contact TLC directly. We know each dog is unique and there is not a one-size fits all dog food, so please follow your vet’s guidelines. The extension of our regular one-year health guarantee to three years is only for dogs that continue to eat TLC for the full three years after adoption date.

Loss of Quality of Life: If your puppy is diagnosed by two licensed veterinarians (from different practices) with a qualifying health issue (congenital/genetic issue), we will pay up to the purchase price of your puppy for diagnosis and treatment of the disease or replace the puppy for up to one year (or three years if using TLC dog food) from adoption date.

Qualifying health issues would include loss of quality of life due to an appearance of the symptoms of a debilitating disease at a young age within the time limits of this Health Guarantee (e.g., hip dysplasia, deafness, Addison’s) Dated records from two licensed veterinarians will be required when evaluating any claims/requests.

Loss of Life: If your puppy is diagnosed by two licensed veterinarians (from different practices) with a terminal inherited congenital/genetic disease and the puppy dies within the first year of its life (or within three years if using TLC dog food), Crockett Doodles will pay up to the purchase price of your puppy for diagnosis and treatment of the disease for up to one year (or up to three years if using TLC food) or will replace the puppy.

Qualifying health issues would include the loss of life due to a congenital/genetic disease within the limits of this Health Guarantee (e.g., some cancers, some organ failures)

Sudden Death: If your puppy dies suddenly within the first year (or three years if using TLC dog food), a necropsy (at owner’s expense) confirming genetic cause will be required to qualify for a replacement puppy. We will not replace the puppy if, as revealed by the necropsy, environmental toxins (acorns, poisonous plants, pesticides, human food toxic to dogs, etc.) contributed to the puppy’s death.

Please Note: Please contact us with your puppy’s health concerns before proceeding with extensive medical treatment. Crockett Doodles is under no obligation to pay for veterinary bills for your puppy outside the guidelines of our Health Guarantee.

Proof of qualifying health issues may include the following items to be considered for a refund or replacement puppy in the event of a major health issue:

  • Written diagnosis from your licensed veterinarian
  • Lab testing results and X-rays
  • OFA results for hip dysplasia (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals)
  • Spay/Neuter certificate dated before the puppy is 12 months of age
  • Proper identification of the dog including microchip number, size, weight, color, sex
  • Up-to-date vaccination, heartworm, and consistent licensed veterinarian care records

Health and Genetic Issues/Conditions Not Covered by this Puppy Health Guarantee

  • Non-life-threatening cancer
  • Allergies of the puppy
  • Skin conditions due to allergies (environmental, products, food)
  • Diabetes
  • Hip issues due to overworked or overweight young dogs
  • Problems related to parasite infestation (beyond the first licensed veterinarian visit)
  • Issues due to human neglect or irresponsible care
  • Accidental injury or death
  • Dog’s final personality/temperament
  • Final coat type/shedding
  • Hypo-allergenicity
  • Color (Pups can fade as they age.)
  • Height/weight
  • Results of genetic testing
  • Removal of deciduous (baby) teeth
  • Re-administration of vaccinations already given by Crockett Doodles
  • Grade 1 and Grade 2 luxating patellas (these often resolve on their own)

Many of these can be eliminated or alleviated through environmental or diet changes over which we have no control.

Health and Genetic Conditions/Issues Partially Covered Under This Puppy Health Guarantee

Some conditions may have both genetic and environmental causes and may not be life-threatening or debilitating because they can be treated/managed to ensure quality of life for the puppy.  In these cases, with qualifying documents including diagnosis from 2 licensed veterinarians (not from the same practice) confirming genetic cause, we will reimburse up to half of the purchase price of the puppy for up to one year after adoption date (or three years if using TLC food). These conditions may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Seizures/Epilepsy
  • Auto-immune disorders
  • Addison’s Disease

Health Insurance

Our Puppy Health Guarantee is not a replacement for pet insurance, which we highly recommend. It does not cover the costs of problems related to accidents, congenital/genetic sickness, or costs of covered illness in excess of the initial cost of the puppy. If you have health insurance, our Health Guarantee takes a secondary position to your insurance policy. We will pay deductibles and copayments for costs we would normally cover under this Health Guarantee.

While we make our best-guess estimates, results in hybrid dogs can be difficult to predict with accuracy so we cannot guarantee final weight, height, coat type, color, amount of shedding, etc.

Results of canine genetic testing can vary extensively, with puppies within the same litter from the same parents testing differently. Due to vague results and general inaccuracies as stated by canine DNA testing companies, we are not able to guarantee canine DNA test results.

Spay/Neuter Contract

If your dog has not been spayed or neutered by 12 months old, this entire guarantee will be null and void. It is the Buyer’s responsibility to send us an electronic copy of the spay/neuter invoice from a licensed veterinarian when the procedure is complete. Proper licensed veterinarian documentation will be required in the event you want to redeem our Puppy Health Guarantee.

Purchase Price

The limits of the Health Guarantee are related to the purchase price of the puppy. The “purchase price” of a puppy is the initial price paid. It does not include the price of training or delivery charges.

Final Notes

Our puppies are bred with the intention of being only family pets, and not as breeding, show, or service dogs. Therefore, we do not provide codes or information necessary to register for various breed organizations. Many of our puppies have gone on to be trained to become excellent service or companion dogs, but we do not guarantee a dog or breed to be used as a companion/service dog.

Our Puppy Health Guarantee is to the original owner of the puppy and is not transferable to a new owner. If any Crockett Doodles’ dog is resold or gifted to another home at any point, the spay/neuter contract is still active, but our Puppy Health Guarantee is no longer in effect.
