It’s that time again, the $100 Cash Giveaway for this week! We want to hear from you. What is the best advice about the first night you could give to a new puppy owner?<\/p>\n

All you have to do is add your advice to either the facebook post announcing the contest or down below. You can submit up to three entries!<\/p>\n

At the end of the week, we will pick the top 10 pieces of advice and post them here so you can vote! So don’t forget to check back later to see if you’ve made it!<\/p>\n

These $100 giveaways are payable by check, PayPal, or Venmo to the winner.<\/p>\n

Winner Announcement<\/h1>\n

September 27th update: We received several helpful suggestions for advice for the first night with a new puppy! After selecting the top 10 suggestions, we let you vote on your favorites. With the voting now ended, we wanted to announce this week’s winner:<\/p>\n

Congratulations to\u00a0Deidre McCarthy! <\/strong>We will be sending her $100 via PayPal.<\/p>\n

Her advice for new puppy owners was\u2014This too shall pass. Patience and a way to stay calm (headphones, meditation, or tea!) We used ssshhh when our new puppy whined which was a calming sound for us and him. We put Beau\u2019s crate next to our bed and then progressively at the edge of the bedroom and now in living room.\u00a0\ufe0f<\/p>\n

  2. Susan Perez \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Plan on getting up multiple times. Take turns. If you just expect it, it’s not bad at all. You have a 8 week old baby, same as any baby. The great news is, it doesn’t last long at all.<\/li>\n
  3. Ashley Evans<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Set a small radio or sound machine next to their crate and play it very low. Complete silence is scary. This helps make the baby feel not so alone.<\/li>\n

  6. Jackie Gary Wallin <\/strong>\u2013\u00a0We put our puppy in her crate, then we told her night, placed a light blanket over her cage and never heard a peep out of her. She still loves her crate to this day. She is 3 years old. We just “say time to go to bed and she’s in it.<\/li>\n
  7. Rhonda Bilapka <\/strong>\u2013\u00a0I drove 6 hours to pick him up so we were very bonded by the time we got home. Lots of hugs and kisses and I put my shirt on his bed. He went right to sleep and woke me up to go potty.<\/li>\n
  8. Sandra L. Tordella<\/strong> \u2013 Be patient. Lots of love. Play with them a lot. When you put them in the crate. Tell them bed time. Cover the crate half way with a blanket. Put something in the crate that smells like you. Don’t make it too hot with so many blankets.<\/li>\n
  9. Michell Patton<\/strong> \u2013 The best advice is Start training as soon as you get your puppy. Put them on a schedule to help with potty training. Dogs are amazing animals\u00a0and they learn faster with a schedule. Also, crate training a puppy is hard at first but if you can make it through the first two nights with your puppy being in crate then you have done great. Stay strong and don\u2019t give in! Remember they are safer in the crate then running around the house or falling off a bed. Start slow with a little time in the crate during the day with praise for staying in there a few minutes at a time with the door shut. This will end of being your pups safe place. Do this several times during your first day. That first night.., make sure your baby stay in the crate. Put something of yours in the crate so your puppy has your smell and if possible get something with the litter mates or parents\u2019 smell on it as well. Treats and love go a long way with a puppy. Remember you can break treats in small pieces. Fat puppies are unhealthy puppies. Best of luck!<\/li>\n
  10. Dan Missy McMahon<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Just like a new baby, you need to be ready to comfort the lovingly confused pup, snuggle him, and give her frequent potty breaks. A sleepless night is worth the million memories.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
