Mini Goldendoodles vs Cavapoos

At Crockett Doodles, it’s hard to find two more sought after small dog breeds than the Cavapoo and the Mini Goldendoodle. Both of these little Doodle breeds are in such high demand because of their undeniably sweet natures, adorable looks and hypoallergenic, low-shedding coats. There is just something about their big, puppy-dog eyes that capture your heart! While both Cavapoos and Mini Goldendoodles could be an excellent choice of companion for many families, we would like to help you understand the differences between them in order to help you make the decision of which breed is right for your home. What are the differences between a mini Goldendoodle and a Cavapoo (also known as Cavoodle)?

Cavapoo Characteristics

Cavapoos are a mix of a Mini Poodle (or Toy Poodle) and a King Cavalier Charles Spaniel. They are as cuddly as they are cute! Cavapoos are known for their sweet, gentle natures, and it’s this relaxed temperament that makes them great companions. Cavapoos can be quite playful, especially as puppies, but they are generally one of the calmest small Doodle breeds. Cavapoos require a moderate amount of exercise, but they mostly love playing with their families around the house. One of the Cavapoo’s most endearing qualities is their strong love for and devotion to their families.

Cavapoos are known for having a lot of love in a little package. At Crockett Doodles, we breed Mini Cavapoos and Traditional Cavapoos. Mini Cavapoos will generally weigh in around 5 – 10 pounds while Traditional Cavapoos will be within the 10 – 25 pound range. Cavapoos typically are born with red, apricot, parti-color, tricolor and Blenheim coats that are wavy to curly in texture.

Mini Goldendoodle Characteristics

Mini Goldendoodles are a mix of Mini Poodle with a Golden Retriever or a Goldendoodle. Mini Goldendoodles are friendly companions that get along with everyone. Because of their temperament, Mini Goldendoodles usually bond very well with children and other family pets. Goldendoodles are friendly, outgoing, intelligent, and can be highly obedient with proper training. They love to play! Mini Goldendoodles tend to be moderate energy level, while Cavapoos are usually lower energy. Mini Goldendoodles are often the perfect choice for forever homes looking for a playmate. Mini Goldendoodles require regular exercise and do well in homes with a backyard or a nearby dog park. In general Mini Goldendoodles tend to have fewer health issues than Cavapoos (as Cavaliers are known for heart issues). While Cavapoos and Bernedoodles are our 2nd and 3rd most popular choice for doodles, Mini Goldendoodles have consistently been our #1 most popular dog choice at Crockett Doodles.

Because Mini Goldendoodles and Cavapoos are both incredibly loving and friendly pets, it’s very hard to compare them. When you’re considering Cavapoos vs Mini Goldendoodles, it’s impossible to go wrong. At Crockett Doodles, we specialize in F1b Mini Goldendoodles — first-generation Goldendoodles that are bred back to a Mini Poodle. Breeding a first generation Mini Goldendoodle back to a Mini Poodle ensures a higher probability of a non-shedding coat, which are especially good for families with allergies. We have two general weight categories for our Mini Goldendoodles, Petite Mini Goldendoodles fall into the 8 – 25 pound weight range and Traditional Mini Goldendoodles will be in the 25 – 40 pound range. Our Goldendoodles come in a large variety of colors from red, English Cream, white, caramel, and apricot to occasionally black, chocolate and a mix of any of the colors listed above.

Cavapoos and Mini Goldendoodles both have gorgeous looks (they often look very similar) and wonderful personalities. Overall, Cavapoos and Mini Goldendoodles are more similar than they are different. Crockett Doodles wants to ensure that families are paired up with a doodle puppy that is a good fit for them. We hope this article helps you find the right puppy for you!
