Goldendoodle vs Irish Doodle

When choosing which Doodle is right for you, many forever homes narrow down their breed preferences to either a Goldendoodle or an Irish Doodle. Both breeds are very loyal, intelligent, affectionate and have a playful nature that makes them great choices for families. While they are both playful and like to be active, they are not as high energy as some of our other breeds. Below are several distinguishing characteristics of both breeds.

Goldendoodle Characteristics

Goldendoodles are a hybrid mix of a Poodle and a Golden Retriever or a Poodle and a Goldendoodle. This endearing breed is the most well-known and popular of all the Doodle breeds! Goldendoodles are known for their playful, loyal, and intelligent nature. They are very loving dogs who are highly trainable and make excellent family dogs as well as service dogs.

The Poodle and Golden Retriever mix is perfect for homes looking for an active puppy that loves nothing more than to be with their family. Goldendoodles need regular exercise and are at their happiest when they have daily play time, walks around the neighborhood, or trips to the dog park. Goldendoodles are also a great choice for homes that already have furry family members as Goldendoodles typically adapt very well when they have other pets as friends.

Our Goldendoodles are bred in four different size categories. Toy/Petite Goldendoodles are estimated to grow to the 5-24 pounds range while Traditional Mini Goldendoodles are estimated to grow to 25-40 pounds. Our Medium Goldendoodles range from 41-55 pounds and our Standard Goldendoodles weigh in at over 55 pounds. Goldendoodles have gorgeous coats that are usually wavy to curly and can come in a large variety of colors. The most popular Goldendoodle colors are red, English Cream, caramel, and apricot, but they can also be black, chocolate, and multi-colored. Goldendoodles are known for having the “Teddy Bear” look that makes them so adorable!

Goldendoodles are the most popular Doodle for excellent reasons. These gorgeous Doodles are friendly and adorable and make loving furry family members.

Irish Doodle Characteristics

At Crockett Doodles, we breed two sizes of Irishdoodles. Mini Irishdoodles are a cross between a Mini Poodle and an Irish Setter. Standard Irishdoodles are a mix of a Standard Poodle and an Irish Setter. Our Mini Irishdoodles are estimated to be 15-35 pounds when grown and our Standards are between 35-60 pounds. They are a wonderful breed for families wanting a medium to large size Doodle that will be an excellent family pet. Irishdoodles are typically born with long, wavy to curly hair in red, apricot and black on rare occasions. Their fur is very soft and shaggy, making them excellent cuddle buddies!

Irishdoodles seek to combine the intelligence and non-shedding coat of a Poodle with the friendly, happy-go-lucky nature of an Irish Setter. Families that know dogs, recognize that Irish Setters are perennial on the list of best dogs with kids because of their friendly nature. Poodles often make the list as well because of their intelligence, desire to please, and hypoallergenic coat. Irishdoodles and Mini Irishdoodles are usually great with kids because of their slightly active temperament. Irishdoodles are very lighthearted and will be entirely devoted to your family.

In Conclusion

When choosing between a Goldendoodle and Irish Doodle, three characteristics stand out to distinguish between the two breeds. Goldendoodles are more social, are available in many colors and have a larger size variation. We recommend Goldendoodles for families wanting a social yet loyal pup that is smaller in size. We recommend Irishdoodles for families wanting a playful, loyal Doodle that will be their forever friend. We hope this helps you as you decide which Doodle is right for you!
