You’ve decided to adopt a puppy! The excitement has begun!
The journey to find the perfect puppy for you and your family is a commitment that should be carefully and honestly considered. A puppy will change your life. Our dogs bring us so much joy! They give us comfort, entertainment and genuine companionship. Pets deserve owners who will provide for, train, and build a relationship with them. Crockett Doodle ownership is a pledge of responsibility we take seriously.
After deciding to adopt a puppy, you must decide which breed is the best fit for you and your family. It’s time to do your research! Explore different breeds, learning about their various traits, grooming requirements, health needs, sizes, and personality tendencies. This will take some time, but it’s such an important step to ensure that the breed you choose to bring into your home will fit your family’s lifestyle. Choosing a breed simply because they’re cute, or because your friend has one isn’t sensible in the long-run. Remember that you’re adopting a puppy who will share your home for years.
Of course, we’re partial to our Doodle breeds for many reasons. As a group, Doodles are dogs who carry genes from a Purebred breed (Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, English Springer Spaniel, etc) and a Purebred Poodle. We love that Poodle genes provide beautiful soft wavy or curly coats with very little to no shedding. This has enabled many people with allergies to enjoy the companionship of a dog! Poodles are also highly intelligent animals, and we have seen that intelligence translate into puppies who are bright and easy to train. Doodles tend to be very affectionate pets, both needing and giving love and loyalty. If you choose to adopt a Doodle breed, we believe you will be glad you did!
Choosing a breeder is a significant decision! You need to know who they are and why they are involved in breeding dogs. Find out their philosophy of dog breeding and read about the people who are on their staff. You want to know that the breeder you choose is authentic, dependable, and reputable.
You need to know where the breeder’s parent dogs live and the environment into which their puppies are born. You want to know that your future puppy has been loved and well-cared for since its birth by people who love and care for their own dogs.

You need to know what other people are saying about the breeder. While no breeder is perfect, you want to have the confidence that other people who have embarked on their puppy adoption journey have been pleased and satisfied with their experience with that dog breeder.
You also need to know that breeder’s process from start to finish in finding forever homes for their puppies. Do they take it seriously? Are they careful about who has the privilege to adopt one of their dogs? Are you comfortable with how a puppy is matched to your family? What is the usual wait time to receive a puppy? Every breeder handles this process differently. Understanding the steps involved will help you decide if a breeder is right for you. Before you submit an application, please read through all six steps of the Crockett Doodle Process from start to finish. We think this will help answer questions you may have and help you make your decision.
